Leaves and Lizards Arenal Volcano

“Just wonderful and 100% recommended”

Leaves and Lizards Arenal Volcano Cabin Retreat

This was our first trip to Costa Rica. Leaves and Lizards was selected for 3 nights based on excellent Trip Advisor reviews. These reviews were right on the money...it was wonderful. Steve and Deb were helpful hosts and there is an atmosphere of 100% relaxation in the setting provided by the cabins. It doesn't come across in the photos, but the cabins are very, very nice. Actually, "deluxe" in alot of ways. The view of the Arenal volcano from the porch is amazing. Great location, great food and a great experience. We loved Costa Rica and made a good decision to stay in the La Fortuna area. There is lots to do and lots to see and you're right there for all of it at Leaves and Lizards!

Arenal Nayara Hotel

“Total heaven!!”

Arenal Nayara Hotel & Gardens

This hotel is total heaven. It's the kind of place you could stay all day long and be perfectly happy. My mom and I booked the hotel through Bookit, where I found a "Stay 3 nights, get 1 free" deal. Since we were going during the low season, it ended up costing a total of $140/night, including tax. When we got to the hotel, it turned out that with our Bookit deal, we also got free dinner every night – up to $50 per person!

Tree Houses Hotel In Costa Rica

“Enjoyed Tree Houses Hotel - Loved restaurant next door”

Tree Houses Hotel In Costa Rica

Yes, they are really treehouses. They're pretty high up which is nice and there's a wrap around porch for just sitting among the trees. The inside was nice, there's glass all around the room so you can look out, and there was a tree that went through our room as well. The bathroom was on the smallish side, but the room overall was basic/comfortable. When we arrived there were beautiful flowers on the bed and in the bathroom which was a nice touch (but they eventually attracted ants so we put the flowers outside). It was easy to get our laundry done there (washed and folded for 6 bucks). The hosts were informative and helped us book transportation.

Hotel Vista del Cerro

Hotel Vista del Cerro

This hotel is basically a motel set on the main road through La Fortuna. The town is a dusty, touristy place not very charming. The hotel is about 2km away from town and a bit isolated if you don't have your own car. Being right on the main road it is quite noisy and despite being at the back of the small hotel we could hear the road. There is a nice little pool with jacuzzi out back, but this is very small and not secluded. Rooms are simple and bare, with a TV and 2 queen sized beds. Ultimately you get what you pay for and if your budget is ~$50 this is ok. However, you can spend little more $80-$100 and get a much nicer place further out of town

Arenal Kioro

Arenal Kioro

We booked at the Arenal Kioro for our last night in Costa Rica, and the biggest mistake we made was not booking it for more nights. This hotel is amazing, from start to finish. Let's start - this hotel is the closest you'll get to the volcano.

Hotel Arenal Manoa

Hotel Arenal Manoa

This is a nice hotel, very typical for the area, and seems to have prices that are slightly below the area average.

I'm very mixed on whether it was a good place to stay or not... First (and most importantly), the lava flow from the volcano has shifted to the opposite side of the volcano recently. Some of the other reviews for places in the area probably mention this. This has completely changed the dynamic of all the resorts on this side (the majority). Even if the cloud cover does lift (which it does every once in a while), don't expect to spend any evenings lounging in the pool watching the lava flow.

Hotel Magic Mountain

Hotel Magic Mountain

Loved the Magic Mountain!! It is a perfect location for touring the area. It is a new and beautiful property. Rooms are ample and views can't be beat. The front desk staff is very helpful. We loved the pool area. Had a swim up bar, but no one as there, a flat screen TV and jacuzzi! Very kid -friendly place yet luxurious enough for couples too.

Arenal Volcano Inn

Arenal Volcano Inn

This was our cheap hotel for our honeymoon trip through Costa Rica, but the service, food, and surroundings didn't feel cheap! We loved staying here! The staff was so incredibly helpful. They helped us plan our activities and directed us to the best things to do in the area. They even called a hotel on the lava side the night we wanted to drive over to see if the short trip would be worth it (which it was!)

Lost Iguana Resort

Lost Iguana Resort

We recently had an opportunity to stay at the Lost Iguana and my wife and I agree that it was an amazing experience. The seclusion of the property was perfect. The rooms were beautiful. I love how they are laid out so you can lay in bed at night and watch the lava flow down the volcano. The chef, Martin, put together some fantastic dishes that both tasted wonderful and were asthetically beautiful. We arranged a couple of excursions through the resort. The first was a hike to the volcano. The guide who the resort set us up with (I regretfully forget his name) was very knowledgable about the entire area. The second was the zip line tour we took, which was both exhilerating and terrifying! The spa at Lost Iguana was amazing too. The spa facility is beautiful, and the masseuse I had was incredible! The spa experience was top notch. The little building that the massage table is in was next to the river. The combination of the fantastic massage and the sounds of the river and rain falling all at the same time made for a perfectly relaxing experience. I highly recommend The Lost Iguana if you ever find yourself in Costa Rica!

Hotel Lomas del Volcan

Hotel Lomas del Volcan

The private cottages at this 'hotel' were a little bit more rustic (no tv) than my husband and I expected and we were hesitant at first, but ended up loving our 2 night stay at Las Lomas. Each little cabin has an amazing view of Arenal and the pool area was quite nice.

La Mansion Arenal

La Mansion Arenal

My wife and I went here on our Honeymoon, and it was the nicest of the 4 hotels that we stayed in Costa Rica (and that includes the $400/night 5 star hotel we stayed at). We were virtually all alone, and enjoyed the HUGE jacuzzi and infinity pool all to ourselve

Tilajari Resort Hotel

Tilajari Resort Hotel

We stayed 2 nights here, as part of a tour of Costa Rica. Wish it had been longer! After staying in the Tortoguero region on the Caribbean coast, and before a week on the Pacific coast, this was our favourite hotel. The grounds were well tended and full of iguanas and interesting birds. There was even a sloth up a tree as our coach drove away!

Kokoro Arenal Luxury Lodge

Kokoro Arenal Luxury Lodge

We happened upon this hotel after driving in to town and needing a place to stay last minute. The grounds are beautiful and relaxing. The view is stunning and we loved that everything is made from natural materials. The service was great and everyone was very helpful in setting up tours and reservations. Breakfast was yummy and they were able to accommodate our special requests. Can't recommend Kokoro enough!!

Hotel La Fortuna

Hotel La Fortuna

We booked directly with the hotel. The website has higher prices but after reading a review on trip advisor I contacted the hotel and asked if they could match the $45 price that was mentioned on the review I read. The rooms have a/c; our room had two balconies, and a wonderful view of the volcano. The hotel was super clean and so were the rooms. The hotel offers tours but I noticed you can get better prices around town. The breakfast consisted of coffee, tea, fruits, and bread. I believed it was the best hotel in La Fortuna. The hotel is new, so everything is in great condition. The lobby and restaurant are beautiful.

Hotel La Pradera

Hotel La Pradera

Jut got back from a week in CR and this is where we stayed for the last four days of our trip. It was a very nice hotel not fancy. It was very clean and very safe which are high priorities for me. The breakfast was very good and the staff was very friendly and helpful. They went out of their way to accomodate us. I also thought that the pool area was nice. We had a great view of the Arenal Volcano from the front porch of the room! I would definitely stay there again.

The Springs Resort & Spa

The Springs Resort & Spa

The Springs is a new resort, still under contruction, but you really don't notice. From the moment you pull up to it you will realize what a wonderful place this is. The views are incredible, there is amazing woodwork all over this hotel. Very interesting design, the entire back of the hotel is open air, all 5 floors. So everything looks out over the Arenal Volcano.

“A Country within a Country”

Lands in Love Hotel & Resort (Tierras Enamoradas)

Lands in love- a Country within a Country.

After spending a solid week at Lands in Love, I find myself thinking back to what a wonderful honeymoon I had there. After driving through the Costa Rican countryside after dark to arrive at a place to see a caring staff walking their dogs was a wonderful greeting. Exhausted, we were shown to our room with by a friendly and helpful staff, and we fell asleep. The next morning I looked outside and the beauty of the place made me gasp. We ran out the door as the sun was coming up, and walked many of the gorgeous trails before breakfast.

A local that we were travelling with suggested this as our last stop on our business trip. It was a great recommendation and as all the previous reviews has said it is a resort for costa ricans. However the staff does speak English. Would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants a great experience at a fair price.

Hotel Las Colinas

Hotel Las Colinas

I agree with the last review that Hotel Las Colinas is an upgrade from hostels (not that I ever stayed at a hostel). The room was clean with air conditioning, a small refrigerator, a television for those moments for when you want to just relax, and there is a safe for your belongings. If you need to check your internet there is a internet cafe right down the stairs for a small fee. Close proximity to shopping and eating as well.
