“The best (only?) hotel in town”

Hotel San Bosco

We drove from Grecia where we stayed the night before, and arrived to Fortuna in the early afternoon. I heard of this hotel before so we went right here. It was the best choice.

There is plenty of "Cabinas" in La Fortuna where you can find a room with shared bathroom for $7-$10.

Unique Qualities: Unbelievably friendly and helpful receptionist, nice terrace with a view at Arenal volcano (even though it was mostly in clouds), comfortable and clean room, pool and 2 jacuzzis.

This is the only real hotel in Fortuna and it is the most expensive place to stay. We paid $50 for 3 persons which still didn't seem much especially comparing it to Grecia ugly hotel where they charged us $55.

“Casual, quaint, clean and nice.”

Hotel San Bosco

First time in CR, and my girlfriend and I didn't know quite what to expect. But this hotel was great! The biggest part was the staff. They are fantastic. The hotel itself is basic. It is clean, great location if you want to stay in La Fortuna, and actually offers a pretty good breakfast! the daily room service is also awesome! If you are looking for jungle beauty, this is not your place, if you want a central location for all the activities in the area....this is great. We would stay again, without a doubt if we wanted to be in La Fortuna, but if we went back, there are other places that are "prettier" outside of town that we saw while driving.

Get a car!!! It's worth it. Driving isn't bad at all.

Thanks again to the GREAT staff!!!

“San Bosco was great”

Hotel San Bosco

San Bosco was convenient to the main street area, and also quiet. It was secure and had gates that lock at night.

We had a view of the volcano. Breakfasts were quite good, with eggs ordered as you want them.

The rooms were nice, very clean. The staff people were helpful.

While in La Fortuna we went to Hanging Bridges, Baldi Hot Springs. We discovered that the best night volcano view is from a bridge on a road, by the park, so a full volcano tour is not needed.

We got a van ride there from Wilson Rojas (506)2451-0218 or by e-mail at He is great! He knows fun places to see along the way, and is very helpful. He seemed responsible.

“Kind of dirty”

Hotel San Bosco

The lobby was pretty nice, as well as the pool, jacuzzi, and breakfast in the morning.

The rooms, however are a little dirty. There is no phone, the television had to be fixed, and there were mosquito parts all over my top sheet as well as two small bugs found on my top pillow. There was also a small lizard that lived in our room, and I happened to step on it in the shower and watched disgusted as its tail swished back and forth down the drain. It appeared again the next day around the bathroom with no tail. Lizards were adorable, but this was disgusting. I ended up spraying insect repellent around my bed because I feared bugs crawling into bed with me.

The location is fine. The rooms just didn't seem so clean to me.

“Loved San Bosco”

Hotel San Bosco

Hotel San Bosco provides the perfect escape the town of La Fortuna, yet is only two blocks away from the action. The staff is incredibly helpful and attentive to the needs of its guests. We loved having transportation at the hotel any time during the day. The morning breakfast was good, the rooms clean, the pool and hot tubs refreshing, and the atmosphere superb. Definitely will stay there again!

“No Complaints about San Bosco Hotel”

Hotel San Bosco

We just returned from Costa Rica where we stayed at Hotel San Bosco for 3 nights of our trip. This hotel is one block from a park in the center of La Fortuna. La Fortuna is a great little town at the base of Arenal Volcano that is clean and has a ton of restaurants. Everywhere we went spoke at least some English. The hotel itself is safe, clean, and has a friendly and helpful staff. A breakfast buffet is included and there is a small pool to enjoy. We paid $75, which may have been too much for the place, but it was high season. It is certainly not a resort. Go up the road closer to the volcano if you are looking for one because there are few really nice ones.

“Excellent Base”

Hotel San Bosco

Hotel San Bosco was an excellent base for exploring La Fortuna and the surrounding area. It is located 2 blocks away from main street and is in a quiet area but is with walking distance of all the amenities of town. An excellent bakery is close by, as well as banks, restaurants and shopping.

An excellent breakfast is included in the cost. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The viewing balcony has a great view of Mt. Arenal.

Josamir and Jose at the reservation desk are very helpful and very informative for booking excursions and shuttles. They are very efficient and are the reason I ended up booking the hotel - they made my booking hotel and shuttle reservations very easy.

The hotel also has a nice pool for relaxing by when not exploring.

“Centrally located, a good place to stay”

Hotel San Bosco

The location is great--a block from the central park, easy to get to restaurants and shops etc. but quiet. If you don't have your own car, I'd definitely recommend staying in town rather than in one of the resorts closer to the volcano; it just makes life much easier. You can always get a taxi or join a tour to the volcano. Note: the volcano is shrouded in fog for parts of the year, so you may not get to see it if you're in town for only a few days.

The rooms are nicely furnished. The bathroom wasn't quite as immaculate as some other places in the same price range elsewhere in Costa Rica, but it was fine.

Breakfasts (included in price) are good and include warm and cold foods as well as coffee, tea, juice, etc.

If you're headed on to Monteverde, you can book your jeep-boat-jeep transfer through the hotel desk; the price they gave us was a tiny bit cheaper than travel agencies in town. There is free internet access in the hotel lobby.

“Friendly. Clean. Inexpensive. Perfect.”

Hotel San Bosco

A wonderful place in downtown La Fortuna. We did not have a car, and the place was recommended by the tour company. The staff was super-friendly, the breakfast buffet by the pool had a big selection including fruit, pancakes, cereals, and breads. The room was small, clean and simply decorated, but was right for the price. It had air and cable tv, free internet access in the lobby and free coffee/tea all day. The room itself was not a place to hang out for long period of time, but the hotel has nice grounds and other places outdoors where it is nice to sit. It was located within walking distance of downtown, supermarkets, post office, ATMS (ours cards worked at one bank, but not another), restaurants. Desafio - the tour company - picked us up at the hotel for a rainforest and volcano tour, and then to the hotsprings (The hotel's pool looked nice but no reason to swim there with the Baldi springs so close which were wonderful despite what Lonely Planet says. Careful with the unattended waterslide there - a couple of people went too fast and got hurt). We stayed one night and left the next day from La Fortuna Airport, which was about a 10 minute drive (the hotel took us for $10).

“perfect stay in la fortuna”

Hotel San Bosco

we stayed 2 nights in this hotel with our friends and we liked the rooms and the helpfull staff. the hotel is located iin downtown la fortuna with an amazing view of the volcano....the breakfast is good and we enjoyed the swimming pool during our free time. thanks to vladimir for all his suggestions...

“Nice Hotel in La Fortuna Center”

Hotel San Bosco

Hotel San Bosco is at a good location in the center of town, but quiet. The town is nice with quite a few good places to eat. The landscaping is nice with lots of photo opportunities. They give a discount for paying cash. Also, the staff is very helpful in booking any trips/transport that you need.

“ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS HOTEL”

Hotel San Bosco

This hotel was recommended in the Fodor's travel guide for Costa Rica. We stayed 2 nights in La Fortuna and we were upset that we didn't get to stay longer at this hotel!!

The room was fantastic, AC, ceiling fan, TV with cable, 2 swimming pools which are cleaned every morning...we even watched the guy measure the pH balance every morning!

Staff is great, the included breakfasts were delicious, right around the corner from the main strip (banks, shops, food, supermarket).

Rooms are super clean, bathrooms had very large showers with hot water (super clean too). Hotel staff was very friendly and were very helpful with setting up transportation and tours.

And the maids make these fancy swans with the towels each day...on day 2 they added fresh flowers to them:)

EXCELLENT HOTEL!! We will definitely go back!

“affordable”

Hotel San Bosco

** I just got off the bus from Alejuela, and a woman on the bus (public transportation) suggested different places, so I chose the one that was close by but away from the center of town. The rates were good, the staff is great especially Vladimir, they offer breakfast every morning, air t.v they have a pool/jacuzzi. They offer internet access, and have coffee and tea all the time. It is very clean and close to alot of attractions. It was quiet and relaxing.

“Simple but charming”

Hotel San Bosco

After reading some of the negative reviews on Hotel San Bosco, I feel compelled to add my two cents worth. Just to provide some background...my husband and I had planned to spend ten days in Costa Rica. We were flying into Liberia and taking a shuttle out to the La Fortuna area for two days before continuing on to Tamarindo. Unfortunately, I did not realize that the NCAA Final Four tournament was going on in Atlanta the same weekend that we were trying to drive in from Charlotte in order to catch a flight....we missed our flight, and our charter....since we were a no-show the first night, we had to make alternate arrangements through a travel agent in order to be able to see Arenal and La Fortuna. He ended up booking us at Hotel San Bosco. From what I understand, if you book directly through the hotel, it's really quite cheap and definitely worth the money.

People have posted reviews saying that it is loud. I suppose that's true, but the majority of the noise that I heard came from noisy American tourists. Everybody that we encountered during our stay was very friendly and helpful. The free breakfast in the mornings was great. It is within easy walking distance of internet cafes, a drugstore, supermarket, gift shops, etc.

Hotel San Bosco is NOT a luxury hotel by any means, but the room we stayed in was clean and comfortable. The grounds are well kept with plenty of attractive flora (important to the amateur photographers) to look at when the overcast skies block any chance of viewing Arenal Volcano. If you stay at San Bosco...remember where you are. It isn't designed so that you never have to leave your room, but then again - you're minutes away from an active volcano, rainforest, hot springs, canopy tours, etc. The difficulty isn't in finding something that you CAN do, it's in deciding what you WILL do.

“Loved Hotel San Bosco!”

Hotel San Bosco

This was a great little hotel in La Fortuna. Three girlfriends and I went to Costa Rica for the first time this month, and I wish all our hotels were as nice and as accomodating as Hotel San Bosco. The hotel staff was super nice and helpful. They had free internet access, an excellent buffet breakfast and clean, nice sized rooms. The A/C was a little wonky, but worked well enough. The beds were decent -- not the Four Seasons, but better than what you'd expect from a budget hotel. The hotel is right near downtown La Fortuna, so we could walk everywhere, and taxis were easy to get to.
