Hotel Club del Mar

I stayed at Club Del Mar this august with a friend of mine. We had a condo and was completely worth it! The bar has great breakfast, "tapas", and lunch. Dinner was decent. However, you can cook for yourself in the condo with the stove, toaster, blender, microwave and coffee pot!

“Ideal Location!”

All of the hotel staff were very friendly and accommodating, whether they were calling you a cab or reserving a tour for you they were always friendly.

The hotel is on the beach. You can get out of the pool and walk to the beach in 40 steps. The beach is ROCKY! The hotel is situated at the end of Jaco beach, which is good because it doesnt get too crowded and you are also only a 2 dollar cab ride from downtown Jaco.

Ive never written a review for a vacation before but i really felt that this hotel deserved my comments.

“Relaxing Hotel away from the Jaco”

Hotel Club del Mar

After a horrible experience in Samara--my friends and I loved this place. We looked online for a hotel away from city life and loved it!! The front desk clerks were extremely helpful. I wouldn't recommend the spa--too much for the quality

The rooms were definitely a 3.5 star rating, clean and comfortable. I can just imagine the condo--they looked nice from the pool.

“Excellent Facility and Staff”

Hotel Club del Mar

My wife and I had a great stay at Club del Mar. We stayed in the hotel rather than in one of the condos. The room was nice, cozy and very clean. No smells, bugs, stains, or any of that (other than a tiny little gecko who snuck in).

The food was likewise very good (try the typical casado with fish) and very affordable for what you get.

The pool was nice and about 25 yards from the ocean. Club del Mar is at the south end of the bay on which Jaco is located, which is the NICER end of the beach, with fewer people, less noise, and nicer sand.

They provided a guard in the parking lot to protect the cars parked there, but this hotel is really located in an area of Jaco that feels pretty safe.

What really makes Club del Mar shine is the staff: very, very nice, accomodating, and most of them spoke English better than a lot of Americans. They even helped us book a tour after we had moved to another hotel. The staff waited on us "hand and foot" while we were hanging out at the pool or dining in the open-air dining area.

There were several families staying at Club del Mar from the U.S. and elsewhere with young children who clearly were repeat guests.

All-in-all, a great stay at a very affordable resort. Two thumbs up!

“A great small quiet hotel on the beach”

Hotel Club del Mar

We stayed at the Club del Mar for 3 days after our Caravan Tour was finished, and it was a wonderful time. The hotel is in a beautiful setting right on the beach and away from the hubbub of Jaco.

The pool was nice, and the restaurant was excellent. We especially liked the granola and fresh fruit at breakfast, and also the sea bass that was cooked perfectly.

The beach is great, and the water was so warm that it was almost too hot for swimming!

We took a trip to Manuel Antonio Park one of the days (in a rental car), and it was a wonderful experience. We spent the whole day on the beach and felt like we were in an animal entertainment park! The monkeys were amazing!

We had room 207 which is one of the hotel rooms above the restaurant. It was clean and had a nice balcony, but there was a very annoying noise from the water pump just below the room that cycled on and off frequently. We asked to be transferred to another room and were given Room 205 which was a little better. Request a room at the other end of the building to avoid this noise. Other than that, the stay was perfect, and we would love to go back again.

“My favorite place ever!”

Hotel Club del Mar

We are definately going back. We had a bit of a rocky start in Costa Rica due to trying to get around in a foreign country, but Hotel Club Del Mar made up for everything! It's not easy to find, but once you do you'll be happy. Make sure you go past Jaco before you get off the highway. When we got there, they did not have our reservation from Expedia. They say they don't book through internet travel sites, so make sure you book directly through them. They found a room for us (a one bedroom and we had booked a two bedroom) and then the next night we moved into the room we reserved. We ended up extending our stay because we loved the place so much. We normally ate at the restaurant there. The food was very good and reasonably priced. We loved Jaco. The people at the front desk are happy to book any tours and know the good companies to use. We did the Chiclets Zip Line Tour and loved it! We didn't make it south to Manuel Antonio, but next time!

We gave our 13 year old daughter the option of Disneyworld or Hotel Club Del Mar for our vacation next year, and she chose Costa Rica. We love it!

“Anxious to go back again”

Hotel Club del Mar

We have stayed twice at this hotel, both at the same time of year. The grounds are gorgeous. The view is spectacular from every room. We took dozens of sunset photos! The staff is great. They treat us like family. Most speak good English. Communication is not a problem at the hotel or in Jaco. The hotel restaurant is good. The town of Jaco is most enjoyable. the restaurants are great and inexpensive. The shops are good. Some of the younger set go to clubs at night, but I would definitely stay in groups when hanging out in Jaco at night. The first time we went to Jaco we rented vehicles. That was expensive and drivers had to be able to drive standard trans. The next time we went we just took cabs everywhere. That worked out fine. The surfing is the best anywhere. Hermosa Beach is not for amateurs, BUT behind the hotel is for any level. The waves are perfect. We checked out all the hotels in Jaco and we concluded that Hotel Club Del Mar was the perfect location, since it is away from the town and at the very end of the cove. the first time we stayed in regular hotel rooms in the hotel. The next time we rented condos. The condos are great. They have washers and dryers and plenty of social gathering space. Since we were 2 families, totaling 12 people , this worked the best for us. There is just something special about this place. As much as we say we want to try new travel destinations, I know we will be back at Hotel Club Del Mar, since we all love it so much.

“excellent”

Hotel Club del Mar

My wife and I stayed here and it was great. We were in a 2 bedroom condo. The rooms are spacious, high ceilings, nice furniture, firm beds, a/c and ceiling fans, nice kitchen. The maids do a beautiful job with nice, personal touches. The front desk has someone there all hours and they are very nice and extremely helpful. The beach side has someone always present to prevent anyone but guests from coming on the property and the parking lot has a guard on duty all night. It's all the way at the south end of Jaco beach so it's more quiet than the zoo up the beach without all the vendors. The waves are not as large as further up the beach but are better shaped and hold together nicely. Late afternoon at high tide they were the biggest. I'd recommend a rental car because it's a bit of a hike to get to town to shop, eat, etc. In a car it's 3 minutes to the center of town. Some excellent restaurants in town and very convenient to Hermosa beach about 5 minute drive south. Jaco is a great starting point for day trips north and south along the coast. This is the place for a perfect stay at the beach in Costa RIca.

“Loved it! It Was Wonderful! =]”

Hotel Club del Mar

I'm so glad that I stayed at Club del Mar and picked it over all the other hotels that I looked at. The rooms are clean and nicely decorated with great views of the pool and beach. The hotel had good staff bilingual in English. The food was good and the bartenders were so friendly - I miss them already! The hotel is safe, further away from town, with security guards. There are activites around the hotel that you can book. I traveled here with only my friend and being two girls we felt safe here with no problems at all. I will definetely stay here again the next time I visit Costa Rica, hopefully that will be soon.

“Best in Jaco”

Hotel Club del Mar

Hotel Club del Mar is by far the nicest place to stay in Jaco. Los Suenos and Villas Caletas are perhaps nicer in some ways but are out of town. Del Mar is at the far south end of the beach so away from the noise of town. You could walk into town along the beach if you like. Surfing is good directly in front of the hotel and the pool is nice.

We stayed in one of the ground-floor condos and it was nicely furnished, one bedroom with a full kitchen. THe kitchen was well supplied with all you need to cook. The restaurant is a little expensive but quite good. I tried the lobster one night at $24 and found it to be great. It was not tough. I had lobster in other places in CR for less $ but this was the best one.

Rooms near the road can get a little noisy with trucks using their Jake brakes but we did not find this to be a problem.

I would suggest the Del Mar for anyone wanting a classic beach vacation. Quiet but plenty to do nearby.

“Great place”

Hotel Club del Mar

Just got back from another trip to CR. Stayed at this very nice place at the south end of the beach in Jaco. $2 cab ride to the main drag of Jaco, this hotel is not in the busy section of town. Very clean, functional with kitchen and two decent bedrooms, kitchen, dining and living room. Met some families from CA. Their kids seemed to enjoy it. Food was good but a tad pricey, food overall in CR is very good and usually very reasonable. Got their lobster dinner one night for $24. 2 decent sized lobsters that had been cooked on the grill. The chef needs to learn to go easy on fresh lobster as it turned out to be one of the toughest sea creatures I have ever tried to extract from a shell. We had room 19 on the first floor. I think that I would go with a room on the second floor and one with a view of the ocean. Phil, the owner, was very nice and was around every afternoon talking to people. He is a busy man building a bunch of stuff in Jaco.

Hotel is right on the beach so it is an easy walk to the ocean. Water temp was 87 and the water stays shallow for a good ways out. Would be good for kids. Great waves for beginnner surfers. They have boards that you can rent with lessons. Next time.

Hotel rented us their van that they use for pick ups and deliveries to San Jose airport. Great way to get back and forth from the airport. We got the van for a 1/2 day for $120 and had a driver take us south to Quespas. Neat journey but watch out for the bridges. Have never seen anything like it. Do not drive south at night. Roads go from great to nothing in no time flat.

Did the zip line tour through Chicklets in Hermosa, just south of the hotel. That was a hoot gliding through the trees.

Wish I could go back.
