What a FIND! This was perhaps the BEST and certainly most UNIQUE place we stayed in in Costa Rica. A 40 minute walk to Montezuma, 5 minute $5 taxi, or $2 10 minute bus ride that comes all the time, these bungalows were just darling. The bungalows are set back on a very lush property complete with resident gardener, only a 3 minute walk down a dirt road to a private beach. The owners also have their house on the property - Patricia and Simon are kind, available whenever you need them and yet also make themselves scarce so as to not disrupt your stay. The bungalows come with everything you need (french press, tea pot, pots and pans, fridge, gas range) in an extremely efficient, yet functional kitchen. Hot showers, laundry line, darling little porch for breakfast. Did I mention artsy? Fabulous design for those who care, both in terms of simplicity, cleanliness, style and architecture. Great place to stay if you enjoy going to the market (you can buy fresh fish from the fish guy down the way!) and cooking yourself for most of the time. On the other hand Montezuma has some great places to eat and two beaches to explore, so there is a nice balance of wanting to stay in and options to go out. Depending on the time of year, there is also a reggae night at one of the local bars. 20 minutes away right on the bus line is a national park with an awesome hike down to a gorgeous beach, in the other direction is a hike to 3 waterfalls. Bungalows are so cute, we stayed in for a whole day and evening just to enjoy our little spot.
Sol y luna is great for the sophisticated traveler that still likes to backpack, the traveler or couple that likes to be near the hustle and bustle but just outside of it. Worth the trek - takes some coordination to get in and out of Montezuma, but well worth it...

Hello, We just came back from a beautifull holiday (second time we went to Sol y Luna). It is really a paradise on earth.

The two bungalows are in a beatifull garden where a lot of animals come through. You just sit on the terrace and if you and your neighbours don't make to much noice you can see a lot of animals comming by your bungalow. The bungalows are very comfortabel for two people, very clean and nicely decorated.

The owners Patricia and Simon are so nice and helpfull they made our stay be much better because of their kindness you felt that they really tried to make us have a great and relaxing time.

So if you are looking for a great holiday in Costa Rica with wild life around you and the beautifull beach very close you should go to Sol Y Luna..

Romantic and relaxing jungle getaway

I have never written a review for any hotel or restaurant on the internet before, but I was so impressed with these bungalows and the owners that I was compelled to write a review. This place is perfect for those who want a little more quiet in a relaxing environment. It is about a 15 minute drive from Montezuma. For this reason it is more convenient to stay there if you have a vehicle. The place is very thoughtfully appointed with lovely touches like driftwood towel bars and handmade light fixtures. I love to cook and the little kitchen was perfect for what is needed. We enjoyed the hammock and outdoor tables. It was wonderful rising each morning, sipping espresso on the porch while watching and listening to the wildlife go by - agouti, birds of all sorts, howler monkeys and lizards. Many people only come to the area for 3 or 4 days, but we were very happy to spend our whole week in that area. There is plenty to see and do and having a friendly little place to come back to made it all the more special. The hosts, Patricia and Simon, are wonderful. They will give you all sorts of tips on interesting things to do in the area and help you out when you are in a bind. They built the bungalows and have a wonderful eye for detail and color. I was very happy there was no air con - the place is well ventilated and certainly doesn't need it, although a fan over the deck in addition to in the cabin would be a good addition. Even if you are not on a honeymoon, it will feel like you are when you are here. It is not right next to the beach, so this is not the place to stay if that is what you want. There is a nice beach about 5 minutes down the road. Mostly we enjoyed all the sights and sounds from being in the jungle environment with the amenity of a beach not too far away. I can't say enough good things about this place and what a great value it is - I just hope that it's available the next time we want to visit!

Out of the way, but worth it.

The Sol y Luna bungalows are beautiful, clean, and set in a rainforest paradise. Their gardens are magnificent, and the grounds are quiet (except for the wildlife, which was terrific). The kitchen is an added bonus for when you get tired of eating out or want to enjoy a quiet breakfast before starting out on your day. The hosts, Patricia and Simon, are extremely helpful when needed but at the same time give you your space.
Montezuma is a great place to visit, but staying right in the thick of things can be noisy and crowded. My husband and I chose the Sol y Luna bungalows because they are close, but not too close, to the action. I would recommend renting a car, but there are bus routes nearby. There is a gate to enter, which is locked at night, so both you and your car remain safely tucked away.

This place is gorgeous! Simon & Patricia are kind and welcoming owners. The only down-side to our stay was that we didn't have longer to enjoy it!

I have never stayed in a place that was better than the pictures suggested, but now I have. For as beautiful as their website makes it, it just can't capture the amazing sights and sounds.

Our first morning we sat on the patio and ate breakfast while rain poured down and howler monkeys growled their welcome.

A word about planning--if we had it to do over again, we would start out from the Puntarenas ferry early in the day. While the roads aren't too bad, they're not much fun in the dark.

Also give yourself time to pick up food, as it is 10-15 min drive to the nearest restaurants & groceries.

Stunning little cottages

There are two cottages on the grounds, both beautifully situated in a forest not far from the beach. We booked one for a three night stay and were very pleasantly surprised. Due to relatively low price we weren't expecting much but actually the quality of the cottages is very high. Comfy beds, bathroom, kitching, everything is thought through and as you would need it. Even a blender to make fresh fruit smoothies. The owners are particularly helpful and friendly as well. Underneath the trees surrounded by animals you truly feel in paradise. Lying in the hammock on the porch is just the best. highly recommended.

The drive to town is about 10 mins - personally think you need a car to get around and skip the local bus that apparently stops near the hotel.

What a magical spot! Sol Y Luna is an amazing place to visit. The owners are thoughtful and kind- they are there if you need them with excellent suggestions, but give you space to be alone otherwise. The cottages are clean, beautiful, designed with an artist's hand, and private. Wildlife comes right up to your door- monkeys, lizards, etc... The hammoks on your porch are the best. Half way between busy/fun Montezuma and laid back/beautiful Cabuya. Helpful to rent ATVs or truck to get to around... The price is a total bargan ! Go visit them...

These cottages are in a small private garden.
If you sit on the varanda and read a book, the wildlife comes to you! - All of it.
we saw monkeys racoons butterflies frogs acouti - it just went on - all on the doorstep.
The owners Simon and Patricia are wonderful. They are helpful and knowledgeable of the area.

Cannot recommend enough - if you want to get away from it all this IS the place to stay
